As I placed myself cross-legged on the mat in the yoga studio, the silence permeated in the room as the following words of my yoga teacher fell on our ears, “We are not actually doing yoga”, I was dumbfounded, then what I have been doing all the past years. Medical News Today reported on July 4, 2008, that eliciting the relaxation response, a nonpharmacological intervention, can help patients deal with disorders ranging from high blood pressure, to pain syndromes, to infertility, and to rheumatoid arthritis.
